Annual Fund Update | |
Annual Fund by the numbers after week 3:
- 99: Number of currently enrolled families at Gig Harbor Academy
- 21: Number of enrolled families who have donated to the 2010-2011 Annual Fund
- 61: Percent of donors who have increased their gift from last year or are new donors
- 43: Percent of total dollar goal (of $50,000) reached after week 3, with 3 weeks remaining
- 46: Percent participation by faculty/staff
- 40: Percent participation by leading class (3rd grade) families
What this means...we are a small school community this year with fewer than 100 families, which means that EVERY family's donation is vitally important to the success of the Annual Fund. Please take the time to read the Annual Fund brochure and/or the Annual Fund information on the web site for further information on how you can help. The Annual Fund pledge drive closes at the end of November, so please make your gift or pledge soon. You can pledge a gift now and pay later in installments if doing so is more effective for financial planning or tax planning purposes.
Please make your gift by November 15th to minimize the number of phone calls which class captains need to make to families who have not donated by that date. If you have donated by then, you will not receive further phone calls or emails about the Annual Fund. |

Community Service - Holiday Drive | |

Gig Harbor Academy Community Service is happy to announce the next community service project for the holidays! We have chosen to donate to Children's Home Society of Washington/Key Peninsula, which has been very appreciative for the several years of service GHA has provided for their Holiday Store. The Holiday Helper/Holiday Store is a program sponsored by Children's Home Society of Washington that gives selected families in need an opportunity to select toys, clothing and a household item. Each family (of 4) chosen will be able to choose 2 pieces of clothing, 1 toy and 1 household item. Gig Harbor Academy has chosen to adopt 20 families and specific items for specific ages will be located outside your child's classroom starting Tuesday November 16th. Items will be collected from Wednesday Nov 17th-Friday December 3rd. All the unwrapped gifts and donated supplies for gift wrapping will be delivered to the Children's Home Society on Friday, December 3rd. The Holiday Store will run from December 13-17th.
We will have a special Colors Assembly in which the director of Children's Home Society of Key Peninsula discusses how these gifts positively impact these children's and their families lives.
This community service is voluntary!
Thank you for your support! ~Your community service team (Debbie Dean, Kim Golden, and Imka Lavinder)

Did You Know?
| |
The school students, staff, and administration gathers twice a week to talk about upcoming events and important school news. This assembly is affectionately called "Colors" and it happens on Monday mornings at 9:00 am and Friday afternoons at 3:15 PM. We honor the American flag by raising it and saying the pledge of allegiance on Monday and lowering it in silence on Fridays. Classes are invited to show off what they have been working on in the classrooms to the other students. Whether it is poetry, songs, artwork, or stories, it is always entertaining and worthwhile. The children learn that they are part of a community which instills a sense of school pride.
Parents, Grandparents, and friends of Gig Harbor Academy are always welcome to attend Colors. We hope to see you there.

Mix It Up Day | |
Prekindergarten through fifth grade students participated in Mix It Up Day on Tuesday, November 9th. The kids assembled in the K-3 building at lunch time and were mixed up in all four classrooms. Kindergartners co-mingled with fourth graders, prekindergartners conversed with first graders, second graders introduced themselves to fifth graders, and so on. Each table had a diverse group of grades. The teachers in the classrooms talked to the children about equality, fairness, and tolerance. The students listened to the Dr. Suess' story, the Sneetches, which engages youth in an exploration of prejudice, discrimination, oppression, and privilege - who are the have and have-nots in society (i.e. the star-bellied and non-star-bellied Sneetches). Ask your child to tell you more about this fun day of mixing it up!
